How to Create Bootable USB Drive of Any Operating System

Because of OS crash or annoying malware, when we don’t find the exact solution to eliminate it, we end up with formatting system drive with a new operating system. Yes, that works perfectly. The task of formatting a hard drive can be done in multiple ways. In the late 90s, bootable digital versatile discs (DVDs) were the ultimate solution. All you have to do is insert the disk into your personal computer or laptop and load it as a boot device. And, it will start the process.

But with the tremendous development in digital devices, it has become possible to format/repair your PC even with the USB drive. So many software are available in real-time to create bootable USB drive. This has significantly reduced the requirement of specific bootable CD/DVD with the particular OS.

Among all the software available on the Internet, I have chosen Rufus which works fast and accurately. However, if you don’t want to create a bootable pen drive using such third-party software, I have another easy solution as well. This method works with some commands within the command prompt. Yes, using it you can make bootable USB easily.

Create Bootable USB Pen Drive Using Software

Requirements:

  • OS iso file
  • Pen drive
  • Internet Connection

Step 1: Download Rufus software from the official site.

Step 2: Now, insert your pen drive which you want to make bootable.

Step 3: Then open Rufus.exe in your computer.

Step 4: The Rufus window will look something like the below screenshot.

Step 5: Now attach .iso file of the operating system by clicking on the Rufus Disk Image.

Step 6: Now click on start and wait for a few minutes. Your pen drive will be ready to boot the OS.

Create Bootable USB Pen Drive Using CMD

This is the best method to make a bootable pen drive. You can make it from anywhere anytime. This method is also flexible with all windows operating systems.

Requirements:

  • Operating system data
  • Pen drive

Search for diskpart.exe and run it as an administrator. Type the following commands in cmd prompt.

  1. list disk
  2. select disk 1
  3. clean
  4. create partition primary
  5. select partition 1
  6. format fs=ntfs quick
  7. active
  8. assign
  9. exit

Now, you need to transfer OS data to your pen drive and wait while it transfers. To run as a bootable device, you need to provide first boot priority to USB storage from your BIOS. That’s it.
